Pumpkin Discovery

Posted by : Mrs Mendonca

This past week we discovered a lot about pumpkins.  As we are getting closer to our visit to Miller's Farm, we thought it would be fun to learn more about pumpkins.  In Language, we used descriptive language to describe the outside of the pumpkin.  We used our senses to describe how the pumpkin felt, smelled, looked and sounded...but we didn't taste it !  We also read a great book about the life cycle of a pumpkin and practiced putting the steps in order on the smartboard during center time. Check out the song about the life cycle of the pumpkin in the video section of our blog.  In Math, we practiced counting using pumpkin seeds.  Some friends in the class can already count past 50 !!  Way to go !!  We practiced our cutting skills using orange play dough.  We rolled it into snakes and balls and used scissors to cut through it.  We also started making tissue paper pumpkins to decorate our classroom door for Halloween next week.  Don't forget about the Halloween Dance-a-thon coming up this Friday.  We are going to wear our costumes and dance in the gym all to raise money to buy some great stuff for our school.  Have fun getting pledges from friends and family this week!
